Chicago is split into hundreds of small grid squares. Each square is colored by how dangerous it is for car crashes. The darker and more intense the color, the worse it is.

Use the checkboxes and dropdowns on the left to narrow down the map:

Tier → show only CRITICAL squares, or only HIGH, etc.
Cluster → filter by crash pattern type (e.g. show only "HOT SPOTS" — worst crash zones)
Region / Neighborhood → zoom into a specific part of Chicago

All charts on the right will update automatically to match your filters.

Click any colored square on the map to inspect it. The right panel shows:

Neighborhood name · coordinates
Tier badge + cluster type
Total crashes · severe rate · risk score · mean speed
When crashes happen → rush hour %, night %, weekend %, hit & run %

The Risk Distribution chart also updates to show just that one cell's position.

The chart at the bottom shows when crashes tend to be most severe.

Switch views using the tabs:
DAILY → by hour of day (0–23h) — when during the day?
WEEKLY → by day of week — which days are worst?
MONTHLY → by month — any seasonal pattern?

Darker bars = more severe crashes. The black line shows the overall trend. Drag the top edge of this panel up to make it taller.

Risk Distribution → where do dangerous cells sit on the risk score scale? Click a bar to filter by tier.
Temporal Overview → averaged time patterns for all currently visible cells.
Critical Hotspots → top 5 most dangerous neighborhoods in the filtered view.
Cluster Analysis → breakdown of crash pattern types in the current filter.
